Description

Working with Google, we built and grew a platform to upskill millions of people across Europe, the Middle East and Asia with the digital skills needed for the future.

Some highlights from our partnership:

  1. 11 million+ registered users globally
  2. 153 courses in 53 markets and 31 languages
  3. 1 million+ individuals impacted across Europe

Google first approached Beyond in 2017 to help tackle the rapidly-growing digital skills gap. I took a leading role in the pitch team, helping us to win a multi-year partnership across design, strategy and tech.

Over the years, I managed the design team and was accountable for all design outputs. The team size varied quarter to quarter, typically between 4 and 10 team members depending on our focus areas (app, web, mobile, research, strategy, etc.).

We established and continuously evolved our ways of working over the years as the team and landscape shifted. For instance, the pandemic brought a sudden shift towards online learning. We helped Google to meet the moment, creating rapid response tools to help people navigate the world of remote collaboration and working from home, in a matter of weeks.

Throughout the six-year partnership, I learned a lot about working with a storied and massive organisation like Google:

  1. Using design skills to communicate with stakeholders at the right level of detail at the right time is critical
  2. When you have a robust set of web standards and brand guidelines to work from, you need to spend extra time with designers to help them find the right moments for creativity
  3. The voice of the actual learner is king, and as designers, we can never stop elevating those voices and bringing them into the conversation.
